Round 1 of the Thang!
My Mock Pick ::: Actual Pick
1 Rams – Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma ::: Same
My stupid thoughts: I.R. before seasons end.
2 Lions – Ndamukong Suh (pronounced Dam a ken Sue), DT, Nebraska ::: Same
My stupid thoughts: 300 lbs of solid muscle, scary strong, fast and smart
3 Buccaneers – Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma ::: Same
My stupid thoughts: I can’t say that he is the next Warren Sap, but he
should be almost as good. And that is incredible.
well, i'm three for three so far, but now Shanahan is up. This will get interesting.
4 Redskins – Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma ::: Same
My stupid thoughts: How do you not like McNabb on this team? Now I mean…
that he has a new blindside tackle with teeth that could scale a fish.
Now that is baaaaaadddd!
5 Chiefs – Eric Berry, S, Tennessee ::: Same
My stupid thoughts: This kid is a beast. I feel bad for any QB going up
against him. And anyone else see Mr. Miyagi hug him in the green room. Wtf
was that?
6 Seahawks – Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State ::: Same
My stupid thoughts: A great tackle for a power running game and a polished
pass protector. He is sure to extend any QB’s career for at least a couple
seasons. Pete, GOOD FOR YOU!
Ok, six for six is good, but not great. Now I gotta deal with the Browns...which, despite Homgren, will be a pain in the rear. Also, just as an observation, in the case of McCoy and Spiller, each of their families had a cute little girls sitting at the table. I love the fact that the whole family is there, and for some reason seeing those kids sitting around innocently staring at all the lights, completely oblivious to the major changes that are happening to the lives of a handful of men that night, can't but help make me smile.
7 Browns – CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson ::: Joe Haden
My Stupid Thoughts: He will be a great starter opposite Wright, good pick.
8 Raiders – Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida ::: Rolando McClain
My Stupid Thoughts: I guess Kirk Morrison can pack his bags.
Ahhh, I didn't expect Oakland to replace one of their best players. Sneaky bastards.
9 Bills – Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame ::: C.J. Spiller
My Stupid Thoughts: Well, I guess Lynch is guaranteed gone.
10 Jaguars – Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama ::: Tyson Alualu
My Stupid Thoughts: Who? Why not trade down? Odd maneuver.
11 Broncos – Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State ::: (TRADE TO SF) Anthony Davis
My Stupid Thoughts: I can see shoring up the tackle spot, since Alex Smith
can’t throw picks if he is on the ground.
12 Dolphins – Sergio Kindle, LB, Texas ::: (TRADE TO SD) Ryan Mathews
My Stupid Thoughts: Take that draft jerks! No one ever values
runningbacks enough and I am gonna expect to see Best go in round one.
13 49ers - Joe Haden, CB, Florida ::: (TRADED TO DEN/DEN TRADED TO PHI)
Brandon Graham
My Stupid Thoughts: I like the kid, but a Llamar Woodley clone at 13?
Alright, I didn't see this stuff coming. I guess my draft is gonna really go off the rails now.
14 Seahawks – Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech ::: Earl Thomas
My Stupid Thoughts: Good speed and ball skills.
Very versatile. Good pick.
15 Giants – Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers ::: Jason Pierre-Paul
My Stupid Thoughts: A physical freak, he could be the next
Jevon Kearse.
16 Titans - Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan ::: Derrick Morgan
My Stupid Thoughts: Pro ready and a non stop motor. Defensive player
of the year in the ACC. Defensive Rookie of the Year?
17 49ers – Earl Thomas, S, Texas ::: Mike Iupati
My Stupid Thoughts: Yeah, top 20 pick on a guard. OH, GOOD FOR YOU!
I don't get it. Everyone likes Bulaga at 5th to Kansas City, and now that they passed they are just dropping him into the second round. Can anyone names a backup tackle on the Steelers? Yeah...
18 Steelers – Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa ::: Maurkice Pouncy
My Stupid Thoughts: Gotta love the kid, but you don’t have to love him at 18th.
19 Falcons – Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri ::: Same
Mt Stupid Thoughts: The Falcons told him they would take him. Literally.
20 Texans – Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State ::: Kareem Jackson
My Stupid Thoughts: Hahahaha. I’m sorry. I can’t help it. That is
hilarious. These analysts go: “It’s gotta be Kyle Wilson, they need a
corner.” As if Kyle is the last corner available.
21 Bengals – Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech ::: Jermaine Gresham
My Stupid Thoughts: At least Palmer has a number two receiver
eventually. Perhaps the Bengals are planning on becoming a power
running team. Hmmm…
22 Patriots – Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma ::: (TRADED TO DEN FROM NE)
Demaryius Thomas
My Stupid Thoughts: Some lucky team is gonna get Bryant. Very very lucky.
Anyone want a young version of Randy Moss? Anyone? Taking all bidders!
23 Packers – Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho ::: Bryan Bulaga
My Stupid Thoughts: Good value pick. This spot makes more sense than KC.
24 Eagles – Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State :::
(TRADED TO DEN, THEN TO NE, THEN TO DAL ) Dez Bryant
My Stupid Thoughts: Now Dallas has Miles Austin, Jason Witten, Michael
Bennett, Roy Williams, and Randy Moss Jr. And Romo will still
underachieve.
25 Ravens – Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State ::: (TRADED TO DEN) Tim Tebow
My Stupid Thoughts: Best QB to come out of this draft in my opinion. And
better than Clausen apparently.
The great QB Steve Young goes, “…but Clausen is still available and he is NFL ready…and…” and Jon Gruden goes, “You aren’t drafting a QB, you are drafting a leader.” The analysts will have to suck an egg when Tebow starts kicking butt. Kiper, who I love, talk Tebow down since he didn’t have him on his list this high, and Gruden just smiles and nods. Everyone, smile and nod if you know. The throwing motion, Waaaaa. He isn't protypical, Waaaaa. He can't possibly start this year, Waaaaa. Buncha over analyzing wussies. Nice planning Bills, gun shy dummies. And regarding Clausen, it isn't that Clausen stinks if Tebow goes ahead of him, it is that Tebow is underrated. Also, anyone know how many picks New England has garnered in one of the most talented draft classes to come out in years? I lost count at 15.
26 Cardinals – Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee ::: Same
My Stupid Thoughts: Hey, I got my 8th. It is sad that this unknown and
undervalued player had to sit in the greenroom for so long, but the
Cardinals just got a defensive staple that will absolutely stuff the run
every play.
27 Cowboys – Taylor Mays, S, Southern Cal ::: (TRADED TO NE) Devin McCourty
My Stupid Thoughts: New England needs fixing up everywhere. Belichick has
gotta pick eventually and he will get everything he can outta him.
28 Chargers – Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama ::: (TRADED TO MIA) Jared Odrick
My Stupid Thoughts: That’ll tick of the Jets. A natural 5 technique, he
will bring some youth and talent to a aging and underwhelming defensive
front. However, it does make me wonder what the Dolphins will do with Randy
Starks and Phillip Merling.
I cannot believe for the life of me that no one is trading up to grab Clausen. He is talented and "comes from a pro-ready system" which is apparently the most important thing ever according to analysts. Maybe the Bills or Raiders will pull the trigger. This is getting worse than Quinn. 1 minute left on the clock? They gotta be trading down.
30 Vikings – Tim Tebow, QB, Florida ::: (TRADED TO LIONS) Javid Best
My Stupid Thoughts: This makes total sense and, despite the fact he will
never finish a season, I think he will be a nice asset for the Lions.
No Clausen here. I guess he is gonna fall outta the 1st round. This is really rare. Anyway, atleast we know Favre will be back.
31 Colts – Maurkice Pouncy, C, Florida ::: Jerry Hughes
My Stupid Thoughts: Well, the Colts actually have some good
linebackers now between Jerry and Phillip Wheeler. That’s a lotta speed
for a set of linebackers.
32 Saints – Jerry Hughes, LB, Texas Christian ::: Patrick Robinson
My Stupid Thoughts: Well, with Brees throwing so much, another corner
would be useful.
First Round Analysis:
I expected to see:
Jimmy Clausen – at 9 to the Bills, I just figured someone needs to play QB in Buffalo
Sergio Kindle – at 12 to the Dolphins, he got gypped
Taylor Mays – at 27 to the Cowboys, this was unimaginative, but he did make sense
Terrence Cody – at 28 to the Chargers, this didn’t make sense. But then again neither did letting Jamal Williams walk, so I guess I just figured that Nerv Turner would draft out of need.
They will have to wait until tomorrow to find a new home.
Who I didn’t see coming:
Tyson Alualu – the Jags know defensive tackles, so this kid must be good.
Kareem Jackson – The Texans needed a LCB and Jackson fits their defense better than I have thought apparently.
Javid Best – After Mathews went at 12, I felt that uh oh moment for the Lions. I guess having a legit starting running back is important enough to overpay. Than again, the Barry Sanders comparisons to help.
Devin McCourty – He doesn’t have Kyle Wilson’s ball skills, but I am sure that Belichick will teach him to cheat just as good as he does everyone else.
Final thoughts:
I went 8/32 on my picks.
All but 4 of my players I had in the first round got drafted by someone.
I think that my draft rivals most analyst drafts, since mine at least started 6/6.
I had an awesome time laughing at Steve Young. Apparently so did Jon Gruden, I doubt we will see him again next year.
