Remaking The Karate Kid: Either I am Getting really Old or Hollywood is Entirely Out of Ideas.
Great news movie goers, Hollywood is up to the task of rewriting film history again. As we all know, original ideas are only terribly difficult to come up with, but they need to be good also. Since this takes up far too much time and effort, Hollywood has remade the classic film “The Karate Kid.”
But how do you remake a film that came out in 1984? That was less than 25 years ago. What possible improvements could there be to make to such a well known and classic film. Perhaps a cast with better actors, better special effects, or a more riveting storyline. Surprise, it’s none of the above. The Karate Kid is now black.
Who is that Chinese guy and why does he look so familiar? It’s Jackie Chan. Just a fatter version. And the new action star is Jaden Smith, the progeny of Will Smith. You all know Will Smith for his fantastic work in “Wild Wild West” and his tremendous contribution to the film adaptation for “I Am Legend.” Work that really speaks for itself.
Anyway, as if Tom Cruise being the “Last Samuari” didn’t make you scratch your head enough, now we are really blurring the lines of stereotypes with a black karate kid. I can’t wait to see what the studios come up with next:
