I finally get to write about Tim Tebow

Man, I have been waiting to do this posting for about 9 months now. Josh McDaniels drafted him in last April and the morons were coming out of the woodwork about how he cannot possibly ever become a successful NFL starting QB. Well, with two games on tape, here are my thoughts on the matter.

Well, he is 1-1 to start on an abysmal team. In his first game he wasn’t given many real opportunities to make big plays, but he managed to make some highlight reel plays anyway. But he lost, so it does not really matter.
In his second game, once again play calling was being limited. Fortunately, they fell behind early and were forced to open up the playbook. Tim reverted to his natural throwing style, which in this case will be a necessary evil for any team that wants to use him. He also did a poor job reading coverage, he was careless with the football and he locked onto a single receiver far too often. The good news is that other than his bad throwing motion all of these things can be fixed in time. He won the game and he is starting to win people’s respect. It is also great to see him so quickly establish a leadership role on the field, which should in time translate into the locker-room.
Looking forward to next year, unfortunately the guy that drafted him just got fired, so he can expect to have to start from scratch again next year. Lets hope for Denver’s sake that they go with a high profile signing, because if they risk their franchise on an up and comer that they can sign on the cheap it will only retard Tim’s maturation. They have plenty of pass catchers for him to work with now and there are few offensive pieces missing from making this a winning team. That said, their defense is a mess. It needs to get younger and healthier, and more talented overall. The lack of good defense is going to keep Tim working overtime to win games going forward, but this is something that can be fixed with a good coach stepping into the fold.
Overall, it was exciting to see Tebow out there slinging the ball around. The Texan’s secondary is awful and any half decent secondary would not have let him get away with so many risky plays. But Tim showed that he can exploit a bad defense and bring a team back from a significant deficit. But this is what he does; he wins what he can and gets better. I won't give Tim all the credit, the Texans inexplicable late game implosions is the main reason that they lost. But I have trouble naming other rookie quarterbacks that have won under the same circumstances and looked so darn good doing it.
